Speaker(s):

Rationale:
During the past couple of years, the mathematics consultant, middle school administration and teaching staff have been involved in "compacting" the mathematics program in grades 5-7 with the goal of preparing a significantly larger percentage of 8th-grade students who take Algebra I. Mrs. Kempain, Middle School Principal, and Elaine Kozak, K-8 Mathematics Consultant, will up-date the BOE on the progress of this important initiative.

8. KHS Summer School Guidelines
Speaker(s):
Bradford Thompson and Daniel Costello
Rationale:
In the spring of 2007, the Board mentioned having a discussion about the summer school programs early enough in the subsequent school year to design a viable and effective credit recovery program. In addition to the design of the program, it was requested that the discussion also include the fee structure.
The following questions might serve to guide the discussion. 1. What will it take to build a strong summer credit recovery program at the high school? 2. If credit recovery is the intent of the summer school program, what options do students have after the first semester to recover credit? 3. Should we charge students to participate in credit recovery options and, if so, should there be a differentiated fee structure that would allow all students the opportunity to access credit recovery options? |
