4. Presentation on Read 180 Program
Speaker(s):
John Fulco, Julie Gutierrez
Rationale:
John Fulco, Chair of the English Department, and Julie Gutierrez, reading teacher at the high school, will present the Read 180 program. Read 180 is a computer-based, direct instructional program for students with reading difficulties that has a strong research and success base. The Board approved funding for the program for the FY08 year; we wanted you to gain an understanding of what the program entails and how it fits into the high school literacy plan.

5. Discussion on Graduation Requirements
Speaker(s):
Brad Thompson
Rationale:
The switch to the block schedule at the high school creates a more urgent timeline for considering the number and distribution of credits required for graduation. The purpose tonight is to discuss number of credits only; distribution of credits is a more philosophical discussion and would have other kinds of impacts (i.e., if the board specifically requires more science credits, there may be a need for an increase in staff and consequent budget implications).
Attached are two surveys: the number of credits required by area districts and the type of schedule they are on, and the number of credits required by other districts in our DRG. The current BOE policy is also attached. |
