The following is the proclamation for National Teacher Day 2007.
Whereas, Killingly teachers make our public schools great; and Whereas, Killingly teachers work to open students' minds to ideas, knowledge and dreams; and Whereas, Killingly teachers keep American democracy alive by laying the foundation for good citizenship; and Whereas, Killingly teachers fill many roles, as listeners, explorers, role models, motivators and mentors; and Whereas, Killingly teachers continue to influence the children long after their school days are only memories. The Killingly Board of Education proclaims Tuesday, May 8, 2007 as National Teacher Day. We urge taking the time to recognize and acknowledge the impact of teachers on our lives. |
4.F. Nurse's Day - May 9, 2007
Speaker(s):
William Silver
Rationale:
Whereas, through their skill and expertise, our nation's school nurses help to foster a healthy, nurturing community in which our children can learn and grow; and
Whereas, most often, school nurses are the first, and sometimes the only, line of defense against the illnesses and conditions our students face, making their contribution to the education and welfare of the student population invaluable; and Whereas, the nature of their profession calls on their ability to take on roles beyond that of health provider - acting as teacher, confidante, mentor and friend to the students; and Whereas, today's society presents students with an overwhelming number of physical, social and mental ills, and school nurses have become an essential component of effective health programs; and Whereas, the overwhelming dedication school nurses show to their profession and the children they care for stands as a testament to their commitment to the success and wellness of future generations. The Killingly Board of Education proclaims Wednesday, May 9, 2007 as National Nurses Day 2007. We urge all to recognize and acknowledge the impact of school nurses on our lives. |

The Board never approved a new rate for 2006-07 for the substitute bus drivers as we awaited the conclusion of negotiations with the Bus Driver and Mechanics Union, Local 1303-261 of Council #4. Although that agreement is still not finalized, Mr. Levola requests that the Board increase the hourly rate for substitute drivers for the remainder of the school year to enable him to have sufficient drivers. This increase would not be retroactive, but merely for the months of May and June.

10.C. Discussion/Action on Salary Increases for Non-Union Staff
