1. Global Issues and Civics and Law and Civics

Rationale:

We are bringing forward the following Social Studies curricula (Grades 10-12) for approval:
- Global Issues & Civics
- Law & Civics

Using Understanding by Design (UbD), our Social Studies curricula is built around the state frameworks and our Vision of a Graduate.
Priorities of our civics courses include:
- Transferable Knowledge & Skills
- Rights and Responsibilities
- Global Awareness
- Political and Social Issues
- Argumentation and Reasoning
- Respectful Discourse
- Exposure to All Voices and Perspectives
- Source Analysis (Validity)
- Educated Consumers of Information-Media Literacy
Units include:
- Unit 1: Structure and Function of Government (Political Institutions)
- Unit 2: American Government Processes
- Unit 3: Civic Engagement
- Unit 4: International Relations (Global Issues & Civics) or The Court System and Trial Process (Law and Civics)

Media literacy, current events, and informed action are embedded within each unit throughout the semester

2. American Studies

Rationale:

We are bringing forward the American Studies curriculum (Grade 11) for approval:
This is an interdisciplinary course (English and Social Studies) that requires collaboration, and inquiry, demands a high level of reading and writing skills, and focuses on diverse American experiences and perspectives.
Units include:
- Unit 1: Searching for American Identity and Voices
- Unit 2: A Changing American Identity
- Unit 3: American Identity in the World
- Unit 4: Contemporary Challenges to American Identity
