November 17, 2022 at 7:00 PM - Bethel Board of Education Regular Meeting

Rationale:  The Bethel Board of Education has directed the administration to apply for the Office of School Construction, HVAC grant for Bethel High School.  The Board will be reviewing and approving the Educational Specifications for the project.  Educational Specifications are a part of the application to the Department of Administrative Services, Office of School Construction. The purpose of the Educational Specifications is to provide a brief overview of the instructional and community programs and the environment required to support those needs.  

With approval from Richard Straiton, Acting First Selectman, and Cynthia, McCorkindale, Board of Finance Chair, we have scheduled a joint meeting of the Board of Finance and Board of Selectmen on Tuesday, November 29, 2022.   At this meeting, we will need to approve the application for us to apply for the grant and commit to scheduling a referendum prior to January 31st.  

Rationale:  Mrs. Variale and STV will be presenting the revised scope and have the cost estimates, to include eligible and ineligible expenses and wanted to provide the Board of Education with the opportunity to ask any additional questions regarding the project.

Rationale:  Congratulations to the newest Dr. at BHS, Dr. Tom Fox. Dr. Fox successfully defended his dissertation, and we are extremely proud of his achievement!

CABE Board of Distinction Award - Level II

Rationale: Congratulations to the Bethel Board of Education for once again winning Level II CABE Board of Distinction Award.   The CABE Board Recognition Awards are designed to recognize boards which provide effective leadership to their districts through the use of good practices. This program, which acknowledges the importance of school board members and superintendents working together as effective teams, strengthens public education in Connecticut and across the country.  This award recognizes Boards which are truly exemplary. The award will be presented at the 2022 CABE/CAPSS Conference tomorrow.   I would like to thank the Board for their hard work and dedication to the families and children of Bethel Public Schools and their tireless commitment and support to fulfilling the mission of the Bethel Public Schools.

$1,000 for student activities, Ingersoll Auto, Danbury, CT.

Rationale:  (Please note:  The Board welcomes Public Participation and asks that speakers please limit their comments to 2 minutes.  Speakers may offer objective comments of school operations and programs that concern them.  The Board will not permit any expression of personal complaints or defamatory comments about Board of Education personnel and students, nor against any person connected with the Bethel Public School System.)

Rationale:  Monthly Data  -  We include in the BOE agenda the monthly data as requested by the BOE.  

Rationale: 

By November 30th of each year, the Board of Education needs to submit to the Board of Selectman the Capital Plan.  The Board will need to vote on the plan at this Board meeting.
