Key Points of the Briefing: 

• We are bringing forward the Child Development I curriculum for approval.

  • Child Development is an elective, semester course in the Applied Studies Department.  

  • It includes the study of working with young children/roles and responsibilities of teachers, observing children, understanding school age children, creating a safe and healthy environment for children, and creating learning experiences for children.

• We are also bringing forward the Graphics II curriculum for approval.

  • Graphics II is also an elective, semester course in the Applied Studies Department.

  • It includes the study of careers and ethics in graphic design, the design process, designing for digital media, designing for physical media and designing for marketing.

Key Points of the Briefing: 

• We are bringing forward the following Science Curricula for approval:

  • Grade K

  • Grade 1

  • Grade 2

  • BHS Biology 

  • BHS Chemistry

• The Next Generation Science Standards call for a shift in teaching practices and the integration of 3-Dimensional learning. We integrate disciplinary core ideas (life science, physical science, earth and space science, and engineering) with the science and engineering practices (e.g. asking questions and defining problems, developing and using models, planning and carrying out investigations, engaging in argument, constructing explanations....), and cross cutting concepts (e.g. noticing patterns, cause and effects, stability and change, structure and function....) in order to make sense of science.

• Our science education involves explanation of phenomena in contextualized problems, students answering open ended questions and providing evidence to support their reasoning, students reading multiple texts, writing, and modeling. Students also engage in investigations, ask questions, and engage in discussion to make sense of phenomena.
