The purpose of Title II, Part A is to:

• increase student achievement consistent with the challenging state academic standards;

• improve the quality and effectiveness of teachers, principals and other school leaders;

• increase the number of teachers, principals and other school leaders who are effective in improving student academic achievement in schools; and

• provide low-income and minority students greater access to effective teachers, principals and other school leaders.

The Bethel Public Schools received $70,086

We will use this money to provide professional learning to our teachers and administrators in the areas of curriculum development, assessment, and instructional practices.

Consolidated-Title III EL

The purpose of Title III, Language Instruction for English Learners and Immigrant Students Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) grants and the state Bilingual Education Grant is to:

• Improve academic achievement;

• Improve English proficiency rates for Connecticut’s English learners; and

• Increase 4 and 6-year Cohort Graduation rates for all students.

The Bethel Public Schools received $26,689

We will use this money to help support salaries of our ESL staff. 

Title IV

With reauthorization in December 2015 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) provides funding to address three priority areas:

1. provide all students with access to a well-rounded education, as defined in ESSA

2. Improve school conditions for student learning

3. Improve the use of technology in order to improve the academic achievement and digital literacy of all students.

The Bethel Public Schools received $25,840

We will use a portion of this money to provide the Anti Defamation League (ADL) program, Names Can Really Hurt Us, to all Gr. 10 students. The remainder of the money will be transferred into Title II.

State Bilingual Grant

The purpose of the State Bilingual Grant is to educate children identified as English Learners in schools where 20 or more are the same language group.

The Bethel Public Schools received $3,413

We will use the amount to help support part of the salary of an ESL staff member.

Perkins Grant

The purpose of the Perkins V grant is to expand opportunities to explore and follow career and technical education programming. 

Bethel High School received $36,568

Bethel High School will continue to use the Perkins V funds to update, improve, and advance its CTE programs to meet the needs of its diverse student body. For all of the programs, teachers' funding will be used for professional development for the continued improvement of instructional practices and curriculum. Funding will be used in the family and consumer science programs to purchase instructional materials that will assist in supporting learning outcomes (eg.. babies, models). In culinary, we will be purchasing a new refrigerator. In the computer science programs, Perkins V funding will be used on instructional materials (e.g.robotic arms, robot kits)  as well as the Code High School learning platform. The Business programs will use the funding to purchase the Knowledge Matters learning platform which allows students to gain career experience through business simulations.
