1. First Reading
|
1.A. 3541 - Transportation
Rationale:
Our current transportation policy does not address the issue of magnet school transportation. Currently we have 35 students at Danbury and 4 students in RCA Arts Magnet in Trumball. There has not been consistent practice with regards to magnet school transportation. The district has no legal obligation to provide students transportation and, as you are aware, the cost is significant. Many districts address magnet transportation as part of policy. We are asking the Board to develop policy to address this issue, creating equity in practice. No action is required. The item is placed on the agenda to conduct an initial discussion. |
2. Second Reading

2.A. 5141.21 - Administration of Medication
Rationale:
Over the past several years, there have been multiple legislative changes to Policy 5141.21, Administration of Medication. The most recent change is Public Act 15-215. The Act went into effect July 1st and the district has complied with the requirements since that date. Essentially, the law allows for qualified school employees to administer anti epileptic medication to students with medically diagnosed epileptic conditions that require prompt treatment, with written authorization of the students parent, and written order by a physician. When reviewing our old district policy and compared it to the Shipman and Goodwin model policy, the team concurred that the model was much more streamlined. Therefore, the administration is recommending using this new version. The policy was reviewed by our Health Coordinator and Director of Pupil Personnel before going to the Committee for a first reading.

2.B. 3542.22 - Food Services Personnel Code of Conduct
Rationale:
Policy 3542.22, Food Service Personnel, Code of Conduct is a new policy. The US Department of Agriculture, which regulates food service programs requires policy to develop and implement a Code of Conduct for Food Service Employees.
The code of conduct is to prohibit employees from soliciting from prospective contractors any kinds of gifts, travel packages, and/or other incentives of value. However, the code of conduct must provide for gifts that are unsolicited and of nominal value which may be accepted by the employees.

3. Vo-Ag Discussion
Rationale:
C.G.S 10-64, 10-65 Requires that local Boards of Education designate a Vo-Ag program if the district does not offer one. Also, the district can cap the amount of students that can attend such program at least equal to the average number of students over the last three years. Many of our surrounding communities have created a cap. Please note, the expenses associated with Vo-Ag programs include transportation costs (which we are required to provide) and tuition. We are requesting that the board establish a process to designate a school and cap for the amount of students which attend such a program.
