9.A. Class of 2015 Graduation Date
Rationale:
Per BOE Policy 6146.01, annually the Board of Education shall set the graduation date for the 2014-2015 school year. The administration is recommending June 18, 2015 to be designated as that date. While the last day of school is June 19, 2015, seniors will have met the statutory requirements of 180 days and the 19th is designated as a make-up day for exams.
In addition, the use of the WCSU facility for graduation is becoming highly competitive, as more area high schools are using the facility for their graduations. We would like to discuss options related to the school calendar that would assist in locking in the graduation date earlier in the school year.
? PA 96-108 - ...
Sec. 2. Section 10-16l of the general statutes is repealed and the following is substituted in lieu thereof: Notwithstanding any provision of the general statutes to the contrary, [commencing with the 1993-1994 school year, and for each school year thereafter,] a local or regional board of education may establish FOR ANY SCHOOL YEAR a firm graduation date for students in grade twelve which is no earlier than the one hundred eighty-fifth day noted in the school calendar originally adopted by the board for [the] THAT school year, EXCEPT THAT A BOARD ON OR AFTER APRIL FIRST IN ANY SCHOOL YEAR MAY ESTABLISH SUCH A FIRM GRADUATION DATE FOR THAT SCHOOL YEAR WHICH AT THE TIME OF SUCH ESTABLISHMENT PROVIDES FOR AT LEAST ONE HUNDRED EIGHTY DAYS OF SCHOOL.
