Rationale: 

• Districtwide -  38 new backpacks filled with school supplies for children in need. Donated by Linda Pool, Bethel United Methodist Church, Bethel, CT

• Letter from Commissioner of Education to the Board confirming Dr. Carver's eligibility for appointment as the Superintendent of School as of August 4, 2014.

Key Points:

1. This is a third reading of this revised policy.
2. The policy states that the schools and district will conduct safety and hazard assessments at least every two years.The assessment inception date, July 10, 2013, was included in the policy in order to track biannual assessments.
3. The policy states that we will sustain maintenance schedules to keep all buildings, playgrounds, athletic fields, classrooms, equipment, etc. safe for students and staff.
4. The policy states that, if students are present on school grounds, we will provide adults trained in CPR and first aid to supervise all school-sponsored activities and to enforce all safety rules.Per Shipman and Goodwin, a nurse would be acceptable as an adult trained in first aid/CPR during the day. We would need to make sure someone in before/after school sponsored events is trained as well.
5. The policy states that we will provide all school personnel with training regarding the All-Hazards Security and Safety Plan.

3. The policy directs the Superintendent to establish rules and regulations to operationalize the security requirements.
4. Shipman & Goodwin recommended we remove the language of controlling access to “school grounds”.

2. The policy states that the schools and district will develop Crisis Management plans (All-Hazards School Security and Safety Plan) that comply with the requirements of PA 13-3.
3. This plan will not be available to the public and is protected under 1-210 (b) (19) which lists exemptions from the Freedom of Information Act.
