Rationale:  Gifts to the School System:

• $4,800 Donation from Rockwell PTO for the purchase of iPads

Rationale: 

• Letter from Teri Yonsky, Director of Fiscal Services, regarding BEA Negotiations.

 

• Letter from BMS Administrators to BOE regarding BMS custodial staff's preparation of building for opening day.

Rationale:  Attached are the Convention at a Glance and registration form for the CABE/CAPPS Convention on November 16-17, 2012.  If you would like to attend, please complete the registration form and return to Sue Pare.  She will register you.

Rationale: 

* Stemming from the Debt Ceiling Debate in the summer of 2011, a 12 member Joint Deficit Commission was tasked with identifying $1.2 trillion in cuts/savings over 10 years but the commission failed to produce a plan therefore triggering sequestration

* Sequestration is an automatic, across-the-board reduction in all federal programs.  AASA current estimate of the impact is 9.1%.

* The reductions will impact the 2013-2014 school year budget.

* For Bethel the reductions will be to our federal grants: Title I, Title II, Title III, IDEA 619, IDEA 611and Perkins.  Based on current grant amounts the impact will be a reduction in Bethel of $76,116 to these grants.

Action Requested of the Board of Education: No motion needed.  The action required by the BOE will come during budget deliberations for the 2013-2014 school budget.
