IV.A. Superintendent's Report

Rationale:

1. Please note the personnel report as you will find employee information reflected in it.

2. Please take note of the enrollment report as we have had some changes in enrollment since last month. In-house enrollment is now 1258.

3. We held our first Open House at LOLHS this month. Jim, Tracy Lenz, and I met with students and their families who also were given tours of the school by student representatives. All families were very impressed and expressed an interest in attending our schools in the future. I expect more tuition student requests as a result of this.

4. Our first edition of the Focus on Education for the year is expected to be out soon as an insert in the Lyme Times. Please keep your eye out for it. I think you will be pleased with the content and the presentation.

5. As mentioned last month, if you have not signed up for the CABE/CAPSS Convention through Jeanne, please do so. We have traditionally had a good turnout as it tends to be an interesting and inspiring event. It takes place this year on November 16.

6. Congratulations are in order again as we were awarded the Bonnie B. Carney Award of Excellence for Educational Communications for both our website (winner) and our budget book (honorable mention).

7. Our Pre-K expansion committee has almost completed the planning process and will present to the Board at our December meeting.

8. I will update the Board on progress toward our district goals.

IV.B. Business Manager's Report

Rationale: Mrs. McCalla will provide a year to date budget status report as well as a contingency fund report.

Rationale: Mr. Wygonik will present our annual high school achievement report. Mr. Ambruso will also provide a middle school update.

VII.A. New Course Proposal

Speaker(s): Michelle Dean

Rationale:

Michelle Dean and Leslie Traver, Business Ed Teacher at LOLHS, will be present at the meeting to propose a University of Rhode Island Cybersecurity Course for the start of the 2019-2020 school year. This course would not be for college credit, but the book and course requirements would be from the University.

VII.B. Request for a Research Project

Speaker(s): Ian Neviaser

Rationale:

Policy 2710 states,

"The Lyme/Old Lyme Board of Education, as well as the parents or guardians of students, must approve all requests for the services of student volunteers in research projects, special studies, and surveys which are not part of the regular educational program. Staff members shall submit requests for the services of student volunteers through appropriate administrative channels."

As such, I will review a proposal from a parent regarding a research project for a dyslexia screening tool.
