January 8, 2014 at 6:30 PM - Regular Board of Education Meeting

1. I have made an attempt to estimate the amount of time each item on the agenda will take. Please be cognizant of these times to allow for the most efficient and productive meeting possible.
2. We have had several personnel changes this month and they are reflected on the attached personnel report for January.
3. Please take note of the January enrollment report. We have a total of 1,437 students enrolled. The Enrollment and Equity Committee will meet this month to review our projections in relation to current staffing.
4. I have attached a draft 2014-2015 school calendar for your review. We are again proposing adoption of the regional calendar. I will present this to the PTO’s, all of our bargaining units, the Community Leadership group, and any other interested parties over the next couple of months. Feedback received from those groups will be incorporated into a final draft that will be presented for your approval at a future meeting.
5. Next week members of the Strategic Planning Committee will have an opportunity to review our draft goals and mission/vision statement. Once all input has been received, I will present to the Board and the communities the outcomes of our process.
6. I will publicly recognize the 19 students at LOLHS who scored in the advanced level on all sections of last spring’s CAPT. While they will not be in attendance, they have received a letter of congratulations from both me and Commissioner Pryor.
7. We received an update from the CSDE (Connecticut State Department of Education) regarding the UCOA (Uniform Chart of Accounts) that we discussed at our December meeting. I have enclosed it for your review and will explain the contents and their impact on us.
8. I have attached the budget calendar as a reminder of the schedule for the next couple of months. Please note the additional meetings this month.

1. Ms. Warren will provide a year to date budget status report as well as a contingency fund report.

This is no educational report this month.  Instead the principals will present their proposed 2014-2015 budgets.

The Board of Education meeting schedule for the 2014-2015 school year is enclosed. The schedule remains the same as it has been with meetings scheduled for the first Wednesday of each month. This schedule must be posted in the town halls this month and, therefore, requires Board action for approval to post.

The Board will conduct the Superintendent’s mid-year review which takes place via an informal feedback session to assess mid-year performance
