Description:
An Education Foundation can support many different district initiatives. We have 313s with all the Wind Farms but they are limited as far as what they can contribute to districts aside from tax revenue. Years ago before the legislature limited what companies who have 313s with districts can donate, we were able to get $150,000 donated per year for 10 years from the first wind farm we had here. That money was designated to support our 1:1 technology program. Once the legislature got involved, we weren’t able to get these donations from the wind farms. That’s where the Education Foundation comes in. It will not be a part of the district so wind farms or other companies can donate funds to them to support things like our 1:1 program, tuition for dual credit courses, scholarships for graduating seniors, grants to fund teacher projects/initiatives/needs, etc. Many districts have established Education Foundations and seem to benefit from what they can do. I’ll admit, it will be lots of work for me and others to get it launched and I worry that we may not find 20-30 people willing to serve on the foundation board. I’m perfectly fine waiting if you all feel we need to. I just wanted to present the information and get some guidance from you all on it.
