10. Consideration and Possible Action on a Resolution Authorizing the Extension of Emergency Paid Sick Leave Due to Circumstances Arising from COVID-19
Description:
The Federal Coronavirus Relief Act expired on December 31, 2020. With this expiration, the emergency paid sick leave is no longer available to our employees if they happen to contract the virus or come into close contact with a positive case, thus requiring the employee to quarantine. After consulting with our legal counsel, we can take local action to offer LOCAL Emergency Paid Sick Leave to our employees instead of requiring them to use their personal or state leave days for any COVID-19 related absences. We have the option to offer the leave only to employees who have not already use it (during the first semester) or we can simply start all over again and allow everyone to qualify. I will recommedn we go with the latter since there is a chance that a person can contract the virus a second time.
