1st Vice Chair Annie Weyiouanna called the meeting to order at 1:03pm.

Discussion:
Present were: Willow Olson (zoom), Annie Weyouianna, Silas Paniptchuk, Irene Navarro (zoom), Jane Kava, Aaron iworrigan, Milton Cheemuk, Stanley, Tocktoo, Sam Mokiyuk, Richard Elachik Sr. Edward Jackson was excused.

3. Establishment of Quorum
Discussion:
A quorum of 10 was established.

4. Land Acknowledgement
Description:
BSSD acknowledges that we are meeting on the traditional lands of the Inupiaq and Yup'ik people of Unalaqlik.
BSSD honors the Indigenous people of the traditional lands where our 15 schools are located. The Bering Strait is the homeland to the Inupiat, Yup'ik, and Siberian Yupik people.

Discussion:
Yannita Ivanoff presented to the board the updates in Food Services.
Silas Paniptchuk recommended looking into serving traditional subsistence foods. Yannita fully supports and encourages the cook staff to accept traditional foods according the USDA standards. |

Gary Eckenweiler reported on Facilities Maintenance.
Annie Weyiouanna reminded FM to keep up with the rest of the schools in the districts needs/projects. She gave an example at the Shishmaref Head Start building that has been vandalized multiple times. Gary Eckenweiler shared that a new contractor is needed for that project. |

Steven Perry presented on Activities. Annie Weyiouanna suggested creating a chaperone list for each school with a male and female.

Discussion:
Superintendent Tammy Dodd reported updates for August. She shared that in-service would rotate between in-person and virtual every other year. Silas Paniptchuk shared that he listened to the Superintendent's welcome address and would appreciate a live state of the district address for the public. He also requested to enforce the cell phone policy and review the attendance policy.

Discussion:
Superintendent Tammy Dodd requested the board members to review the AASB resolutions and choose top three to review. A virtual board work session will be set for September 18 to review the list and narrow down to BSSD top three resolutions to submit to AASB before the October deadline and November Annual Meeting.

Discussion:
Annie Weyiouanna publicly thanked the BSSD Team's quick response to the Stebbins School fire and plans to open school this fall.
Milton Cheemuk appreciates BSSD decisions and updates for the public. John Waghiyi of Savoonga addressed the high truancy rate for the Savoonga School and students. He encouraged parents to improve their children's attendance with positive reinforcements. John also addressed the Akuzipik language and encouraged continued staff support to address the language loss. |

AASB Fall Boardsmanship Sept. 14-15 in Fairbanks.
Board Work Session via zoom Sept. 18. Regular Session Sept. 19 in Wales, possible Diomede visit. |
