VI. ACTION ITEMS
|
VI.1. Adoption of DPI's Special Education Model Policies and Procedures
The district (Local Educational Agency) needs to adopt DPI's Special Education Model Policies and Procedures. We need to do that each time DPI revises them, which they did in August. The last revision was in the summer of 2018. We adopt DPI's version since it is an all-in-one that covers all of our legal responsibilities. Background for the board: Once the board has adopted the Model Policies and Procedures, each subsequent year LEAs submit an assurance to DPI that the LEA adopted model special education policies and procedures and forms developed by DPI or submitted their own locally developed special education policies, procedures, and forms for DPI review. This annual certification, upload, and review process is built into the WISEgrants application. What has changed? The policies and procedures are updated to align with revisions to the disability categories in PI 11.36. They updated the evaluation criteria for Blind and Visually Impaired, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Deafblind, and Speech or Language Impairment. The District recommends the adoption of DPI's Special Education Model Policies and Procedures as presented.
