Proposed Language: High School Credit for Courses Taken by Middle School Students
High school credit will be awarded to middle school students for taking equivalent high school courses at the middle school and for courses taken at the high school while enrolled in grades 7-8 in accordance with the following: a. The pupil’s performance on a statewide assessment or a similar examination approved by the school board demonstrates that the pupil is academically prepared for coursework that is offered in the high school grades. b. The credit is earned in a course that is taught by a teacher who is licensed to teach the subject in high school grades. c. The credit is earned in a course that is taught using a curriculum and assessments that are equivalent to the curriculum and assessments used to teach the subject in the high school grades. Approved credit can count toward the District requirement of 24 credits and as part of the specific requirement in the various academic areas. The course(s) will automatically appear on the transcript with credit given and the grade will be computed in the grade point average. If a parent/guardian determines at any point in the student's career that the course(s) will not be taken for credit, the parent/guardian must provide a request in writing to their student's counselor requesting the removal of the course and credit from the transcript.
