September 23, 2025 at 5:30 PM - Garrison ISD School Board

Discussion:  The board president called the meeting to order at 5:35 PM. A quorum was present and due notice had been posted and published.  Justin Shull & Matt Barrett were absent.

Discussion:  Kent Curbow led in prayer.

Discussion:  There were no citizens.

Discussion:  Mr. Spivey was available to answer any questions regarding bills from the previous month. 

Discussion:  Mr. Spivey gave the budget report.

Discussion:  There were no budget amendments.

Discussion:  There were no donations.

Discussion:  Mrs. White gave the elementary board report.  Beginning of the year testing is complete, intervention meetings are being held and groups have started. Elementary UIL is off with teams starting to practice.  Mrs. Craig started as the elementary secretary, and she is doing a wonderful job. Students will be read to about Johnny Appleseed in the library as part of 1st grade collaboration. High School Students have started champion times and push into elementary classes to mentor students and support teachers. 1st & 3rd Grade are excelling in attendance having over 98% attendance year to date.  Mr. Massey gave the middle school board report. GMS Cross Country has had successful meets at both Chester and Cushing. Several students continue to place in the event. 8th grade student Peyton Peltcher placed 1st at Cushing. Both the 7th and 8th grade A teams are undefeated in volleyball. Both teams won first place at the Garrison and Pine Tree tournaments. The GMS football teams have been working hard. The 7th grade team pulled out a last minute victory vs Alto while the 8th ended in a hard fought tie. Mrs. Phillips has started her guidance lessons with the GMS students during tutorialsGMS students have selected their class representatives for Student Council.Mr. Spivey gave the High School report for Mr. Autrey who was administrator on duty at the volleyball game. The high school completed Unit Tests and he shared the results. We are in the process of distributing new chromebooks. CNA clinicals will begin on October 1st. VB has won 4 of the last 5 and begins district play tonight. They will be off this week. Play North Webster on Oct 3. District play begins Oct. 10th. Monday night band rehearsal, UIL Marching Contest Oct 18th. FFA built the largest mum he's ever seen and is planning to try and beat the world record next year. 

Discussion:  Mrs. White presented the campus improvement plan for elementary. 
 

Discussion:  Mr. Massey presented the campus improvement plan for middle school.  

Discussion:  Mr. Tyler presented the campus improvement plan for high school.

Discussion:  Mr. Spivey gave the superintendent's report. Mr. Spivey presented the baseball/softball turf design and requested input from the board. Demolition has started on the baseball fence. Excavation to begin as soon as this ewek.  GeoTech Report initial was good.  Mr. Spivey told the board about a letter from TEA he shared with the teachers regarding Charlie Kirk. There will be a career exploration tour on October 3, 2025.Snapshot day is October 31 and this is also realignment year. Region VII came to visit the library are very pleased with Mrs. Mora and the she has done to fulfill SB 13 requirements. 

Discussion:  Team of 8 Training will be next month and we will approve the vision and goal set forth by Mr. Spivey and the board. 

Discussion:  The board president adjourned the board meeting into a closed session at 6:15 pm pursuant to the following sections of the Texas Open Meetings Acts 551.072 and 551.074.

The board returned to open session at 7:10 PM. 

Discussion:  The next meeting will be October 20 beginning at 5 PM for team of 8 trainig. The meeting adjourned at 7:15 PM.
