IV. POLICIES TO REVIEW
Description:
|
IV.A. Holiday Policy
Description:
Attached please find the Holiday Policy. I anticipate that we will have a few parents speak at the Policy Committee Meeting during public comments regarding their thoughts on the Holiday Policy. The concerns are related to how the holidays are portrayed in the schools, and including, elementary music programs. Tim Schell, Amy Johnson, and I have been in discussion about the policy and have reviewed policies from surrounding school districts that we would like to bring back at a subsequent meeting. We have also opened up discussion with our principals and elementary music staff on the concerns and they are reviewing options for the next year. On Tuesday evening I suggest that we allow the parents the opportunity to share their concerns, and we can outline the process we will follow with this policy review.

IV.C. Graduation Requirements Policy
Presenter:
Tim Schell
Description:
Attached please find the Graduation Policy. Some of the changes are minor as a result of moving out of the transition years to the new math and science graduation requirements. The only substantive change in policy is the stipulation that up to 0.5 credits of Physical Education may be earned in a virtual course. This reflects the conversations the Board had when we expanded access to online PE in 2016-2017, but we did not formally state this in policy. This modification was discussed at the Curriculum Committee on March 27 and the committee was supportive of the change.

IV.D. Fundraising Policy
Description:
Attached are the Fundraising Policies that the committee reviewed last summer. The changes are highlighted. At that time, the policies were not moved forward to the full board out of concern of inequity of technology and PTO fundraising for technology at the K-4 level. We have addressed the elementary technology concern this year, so we are bring back the policies for your review. The updated polices reflect language that aligns with our new fundraising procedures per the addition of Classmunity.

IV.E. Advertising Policy
Description:
Attached please find the Advertising Policies. I would like to review the Advertising Policies with the committee to be certain that your thoughts are congruent with how I am implementing this policy. Particularly I want to bring to your attention how there has been a shift in requests for advertising, distribution of materials to students, and larger donors for programs and sponsorship opportunities. The discussion may yield modifications to this policy for a future meeting.
