Description:  The school board meeting is a meeting in the public, not a public meeting.  Nicollet School Board Policy provides that persons who wish to have a subject discussed at a public school board meeting are encouraged to notify the superintendent’s office in advance of the school board meeting.  The school board chair will recognize one speaker at a time and will rule out of order other speakers who are not recognized, violations of data privacy, or inappropriate comments.

Description:  We have been notified by MDE that our food service fund balance is out of compliance with U.S. Department of Agriculture 7 CFR 210.14 and 210.19.  Per these regulations, a school food authority must limit its net cash resources to an amount not exceeding three months’ average expenditures.  Our excess fund balance in the food service fund is $30,000.  We must submit an Excess Cash Resources Reduction plan to MDE by March 30.  
I am developing a plan with Barb Rosin to purchase kitchen equipment.  We are gathering cost information for a new freezer, serving line, and other equipment.  

The daycare staff and children are experiencing a high rate of absenteeism due to COVID-19 and influenza.  Some days the toddler and preschool rooms are combined.  We may need to reduce the hours of operation to avoid temporarily closing the program.

The 2022 legislative session is underway.  The primary areas of focus are expected to be the $7.7 billion budget surplus and the bonding bills.  Additional funding for public education has been proposed by the Governor’s in his supplemental budget.

The calendar is important to all stakeholders.  Therefore, I organized a committee, which includes representatives from teachers, parents, administration, non-certified staff, and students.  The 2022-23 calendar committee will meet February 16.  The calendar, developed by the committee, is recommended to the superintendent.  The superintendent’s recommendation will be submitted to the school board on March 9.

Description:  MS 123B.02, Subd. 6 permits the school board to accept donations or gifts for the benefit of the district.  The Superintendent recommends approving the donations received.

Description:  The superintendent recommends that the school board approve one of the following options regarding the 21-22 Student-Parent Handbook, Page 6 Clothing and Attire:

1.  

A.  Current Language (no change):  Headwear, including hats, hoods, bandanas, etc. may not be worn indoors during the school day.

B.  Delete Language (hats permitted grades K-12): Headwear, including hats, hoods, bandanas, etc. may not be worn indoors during the school day.

C.  Modify Language (hats permitted grades 7-12) : Headwear, including hats, hoods, bandanas, etc. may not be worn indoors during the school day by students in grades K-6.
