5.A. ROCORI SCHOOL DISTRICT RADON TESTING SUMMARY
Between January 2025 and January 2026, IEA placed more than 400 short term radon test kits in roughly 350 locations across six district buildings, including Cold Spring, John Clark, and Richmond Elementary Schools, the District Education Facility, the Alternative Learning Center, and ROCORI High School/Middle School, following Minnesota Department of Health and ANSI/AARST testing protocols. Nearly all locations tested below the EPA and MDH action level of 4.0 picocuries per liter (pCi/L), with only four rooms across the district measuring at or above it. Three of those, Room 108 at the District Education Facility and the Cafeteria and Room 203 at John Clark Elementary, were retested in March 2025 using continuous radon monitors, which recorded averages between 1.3 and 2.3 pCi/L during occupied hours. The fourth, Room C102 (the District Office Board Room), measured 4.7 pCi/L in the December 2025 round and was retested with a continuous monitor in January 2026, averaging 1.6 pCi/L during occupied hours. Every room that initially exceeded the action level has now been confirmed below it under normal occupancy, no mitigation systems were required, and the district will continue retesting every five years as recommended by MDH and EPA, with these results reported to the board and to MDH as required by Minnesota Statutes section 123B.571. No formal action to be taken.
