V.J. Illinois High School Association (IHSA) – New Sport Update
Description:
IHSA is debuting Girls Flag Football beginning in the fall of 2024. It seems that IHSA is moving away from the emerging sport process followed in previous years, with the addition of new statewide athletic opportunities happening on an expedited basis. The administration will likely be surveying students in the very near future to inquire about interest in girls’ flag football as well as girls’ wrestling, which was also debuted outside of the emerging sport process. We look forward to reporting back student interest to the Board, along with Title IX implications, as we consider potential opportunities.

VIII.A. 2023-2024 Tentative Amended Budget **
Description:
We have amended the 2023-2024 budget now that our federal grants and state funding has been finalized. We’re waiting on the final Equalized Assessed Value from Lake County with our extension for the 2023 levy. We should have the final numbers on this towards the end of March and will update the current year levy numbers. Additionally, we’ve trimmed expenses everywhere we can, projecting out the rest of the year. Per statute, the amended budget must be on display for 30 days. It will be on the May agenda for hearing and approval. Recommend placing the tentative amended 2023/24 budget on display.
|
VIII.B. Transportation Recommendation – Van(s) Purchase **
Description:
The special education transportation and homeless transportation budget lines are significant expenses to the District. I’ve been working with Nate Miller and Tina Sonders to look at routes in both the homeless and special education realms that we could feasibly bring in-house with the purchase of an additional van or two, as an effort to save expenses as well as give our students being transported a consistent driver. I’ve included a recommendation for the purchase of up to two additional vans, not to exceed $100,000. I’ve marked this as an action item in the event that the Board would like to take action on it after discussing.
