V.B. Pathways Presentation
Description:
In April 2016, the State of Illinois submitted its Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) State Plan to the U.S. Department of Education. Included in the school accountability framework was a College and Career Readiness Indicator (CCRI), which is a multiple factor approach to measuring student readiness upon high school graduation. One of those factors was obtaining a Career Pathway endorsement.
Career Pathways embrace a philosophy that every student can learn, grow, and leave high school college and career ready. Students can earn endorsements by completing an individualized learning plan, completing a career-focused instructional sequence, and engaging in professional learning opportunities. Through these designated career pathways, students can explore career options, obtain credentialing, and experience authentic learning. The 2016 Postsecondary and Workforce Readiness Act required school districts to award College and Career Pathway Endorsements to high school graduates. Last February, this Act was amended to include timelines for schools to create career pathways.
The administration will provide a brief presentation identifying the purpose of pathways, share the work the College and Career Readiness committee has made, and explain how we are working to provide pathways to Grant students. |

VII. Superintendent’s Report – Action Items

VII.A. Village of Volo - Temporary Construction Easement **
Description:
The Village of Volo is planning to improve Fish Lake Road from north of IL 120 to Nippersink Road in Volo. This improvement requires the acquisition of a temporary construction easement on our parcel of property along Fish Lake Road. A resolution outlining the details of the 5-year, temporary construction easement is provided and has been approved by legal counsel. The District would be providing this temporary easement as a "donation" and waiving our right to obtain an appraisal and charge the Village of Volo. We have met with Village officials to review the improvement plans and they will be a nice addition for the community.
|
VII.B. Overnight Travel **
Description:
The Cross Country Team is requesting to travel to Peoria from September 15 to 16 for the Peoria Notre Dame Cross Country Invite. Approximately 35-50 student-athletes will attend with 2 coaches and one adult chaperone. The cost of the trip, approximately $2,000, will be paid with student activity funds, with students responsible for the cost of one meal.

VIII. Business Affairs
|
VIII.A. Site and Facility Committee Presentation **
Description:
The Site and Facility Committee met on June 28th to review options for the weight room improvements. I’ve attached the presentation to this packet and will go over the presentation with the architects at the meeting. Additionally, I’ve marked this item as a possible action item so the Board can discuss and take action if they choose to.
|
VIII.B. Final 2023/24 Budget **
Description:
Attached is the final 2023-2024 budget. I’ve updated from the tentative budget with new employees that have been hired, increased the grants per the allocations the state has indicated we will receive and trimmed expenses extensively. The budget has been on display for the statutory 30 days. Recommend approval of the 2023-24 budget as presented.
|
VIII.C. Purchase of Used Mini-Vans for Transportation **
Description:
I’ve included three purchase quotes from Ray Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram for three used Chrysler Pacifica mini-vans. These vans would be used to transport students to and from job sites and to and from school. The job coaches and teacher assistant for the Transition program are currently in the process of school bus driver training in order to be licensed with a permit to transport students. The total estimated cost for all three minivans is $116,264.78. Recommend purchasing three used mini-vans from Ray Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/ Ram not to exceed $120,000.
|
VIII.D. National School Lunch Program **
Description:
As part of the Healthy Hunger Free Act of 2010, Section 205, the district each year must analyze the price charged for the school lunches using a paid lunch equity calculator provided by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). The purpose is to comply with the law which requires that schools charge students for paid meals at a price that is on average equal to the difference between free meal reimbursement and paid meal reimbursement. The paid lunch equity calculator determines the amount that the lunch price must be increased based on our lunch prices and number paid lunches served in October of 2022.
I’ve included the Paid Lunch Equity Worksheet and a historical list of our prices per meal. I recommend the school lunch price be increased to $3.55 per meal for all meals, in order to comply with the paid lunch equity component of the National School Lunch Program, and the school breakfast price stay the same at $1.50 for all breakfast meals. |
