XI.1. K-4 Math Adoption
Description:
The district previously used Bridges mathematics for grades K-5 and Illustrative for grade 6-8. However, the Math committee found that Bridges was not well-organized around specific standards, making it challenging to assess student progress. On the other hand, Illustrative is very standards-driven, with each unit focusing on one to two standards, making it easier for the district to focus on standards-based reporting and assessing. The district then gave all classroom teachers, special ed teachers, and co-teachers a chance to vote, with 95% voting in favor of switching to illustrative. The Math Committee then presented their experience and data to the district Administration, and they agreed together that illustrative would be a better fit. The Administration recommends adopting illustrative mathematics for grades K-5. |
