5.1. Youth Service Students who volunteered in Charleston, South Carolina.

Description:
We would like to recognize the students who attended the Youth Service trip to South Carolina over MEA weekend. They worked a total of 18 hours over 3 days in facilities that serve abused, abandoned and needy children and teens in the Charleston area.
The students were commended by the staff at each facility for their work ethic, manners and selfless giving to help others. Each day the work list was completed and more work was accomplished than the organizers had planned. Students who attended are: Ashley Beseke, Daisy Castillo, Kalie Devine, Katherine Cronk, Ann Fraser, Sam Gerdts, Alex Haas, Amelia Froelich, Allison Schwarz, Hank Pfarr, Kyle Tappe, Hannah Tohal, Maddy Meyer, Kayla Weiers, Hannah Matthews, and Madison Hartmann |
5.2. Peter Turek, LSH Middle School

Peter Turek will have his poem "Secrets" published in the Compas Anthology this year.
These poems came from our week of poet-in-residence with 7th graders last year. HAVE pays for our poet each year. |
5.3. Evan Coakley, LSH High School Senior

Description:
Evan received the Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholar Program. He scored in the top 36,000 out of 1.5 million students on the PSAT. This performance was outstanding and congratulations to Evan.

Our enrollment for the month of October shows a drop from 1036 to 1018 students. Two students have moved to new educational programs at MVED. 15 of the 16 others (5 families) have moved out of the district due to new employment elsewhere or an inability to secure affordable housing within our district. Affordable housing in our District continues to be a concern.
