October 12, 2026 at 6:00 PM - Regular Monthly Meeting of the KFCS Board of Education

Description:  The board welcomes you to its monthly meeting.  Public input is welcome and encouraged during the Public Comment segment of this meeting. 

All those wishing to address the board have previously submitted their comments electronically or have submitted a  Request to Speak form prior to the start of this meeting. Three (3) minutes is allotted for each individual speaker, with a total of fifteen (15) total minutes for this segment of the agenda.

I am an eighth-grade student at Ponderosa Middle School, and I want to share how the implementation of the NES model has affected my experience at school. Before these changes, school felt like a place where I could learn, spend time with my friends, and feel comfortable being myself. Now, school feels completely different. To me, it feels more like a prison than a place where students are supposed to learn and grow.
Since the NES model was implemented, I have noticed a major change in how I feel about going to school. I no longer look forward to coming to school, and there are times when I genuinely hate having to go. The rules, structure, and environment have made me feel like I have very little freedom or control over my own school experience. Instead of feeling motivated to learn, I often find myself focused on getting through the day.
Most importantly, I feel like these changes are affecting my mental health. Thinking about going to school can cause me a lot of anxiety, sometimes even before I arrive. I can feel stressed and overwhelmed just knowing that I have to spend another day in an environment where I don't feel comfortable. School already takes up a large part of my life, so it is difficult when the place I spend so much time in is also a major source of stress.
I understand that schools need rules and structure, and I know the NES model was created with the goal of improving schools. However, I believe students' feelings and mental health should also be considered. Students should feel safe, respected, and supported at school. I hope my experience can help adults understand how these changes can affect students and encourage them to listen to our concerns.

At each year's October KFCS School Board meeting, the Superintendent will report on each school's plan toward achieving class size, composition and total daily student contact that maximizes student learning with resources available.

There are no gifts to recognize this month. However, we want to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt appreciation to everyone who so generously gives their time, talents, and treasures to support our district. Your continued generosity, dedication, and willingness to invest in our schools and students are truly valued and make a meaningful difference throughout our district.

Five individuals submitted applications to fill the vacant Zone 1 position on the KFCS Board of Education, representing the Roosevelt Elementary School area. We would like to sincerely thank Jaynee Coslet, Natalie Griffin, Amy Stercho, Kali Carter, and Holly Stork for their interest in serving our district and community.

On the sheet in front of you, please write your first and second pick. I will then tally those.

This is an action item. At this time, I will open the floor for a motion.

Once the vote is complete, the newly appointed board member will need to take the Oath of Office (attached, read aloud, if present)
