1. CALL REGULAR SESSION TO ORDER
Description:
The Regular Session of the North Santiam School District’s Board of Directors is now called to order. This is an open meeting of the Board and the public is allowed to observe. On tonight’s agenda is a place for public comment. Those in attendance that wish to address the Board during this time must complete a public comment card and present it to the Board Secretary, Tonia Whisman. These orange cards are available on the table at the door. Due to confidentiality and liability issues the Board cannot hear complaints against staff in an open session.

4. SPOTLIGHT
Description:
This time is set aside for special presentations that are not recurring agenda items

4.1. SHS Student Acknowledgement:Tass Morrison
Description:
SHS Senior, Roni Heagy, will be acknowledged for her recent accomplishments on the Stayton Highlights Dance Team. She is the first Stayton Highlight ever to receive a DDCA (Dance & Drill Coaches Assoc of Oregon) scholarship. She was also awarded a spot on the OSAA All-State Dance Team, was chosen as Best All-Around dancer by her coaches and was selected as the Statesman Journal Athlete of the week.

4.2. United Way Check Presentation: Cassie Cruz
Description:
A representative from the United Way will present a check to the District representing $200 each for all K-5 self-contained classrooms. United Way is funding a program intended to offset the personal costs that teachers tend to incur to provide materials or resources in their rooms to remove barriers to student learning.

4.3. Sublimity Schools: Missy Riesterer
Description:
Sublimity Principal, Missy Riesterer, will share some of the wonderful things happening at Sublimity School.
|
5. RECESS FOR REFRESHMENTS
Description:
There will be a brief recess to allow Board members to visit with Sublimity students, staff and parents.

6. PUBLIC COMMENT
Description:
The Board welcomes public comments on topics and concerns that affect the education of students. When stating an opinion before the Board, a statement of facts on which the opinion is based is particularly helpful. The Board is also interested in comments for viable solutions and ways of involving others who would be affected by the offered solutions. Due to confidentiality and liability issues the Board cannot hear complaints against staff in an open session. A copy of the policy and procedures on how to file a complaint are available at the back of the room, at any school office, from the Board's Executive Assistant, or from the North Santiam School District website. If there is anyone in attendance at this time, who has filled out a public comment card and wishes to address the Board, they should now step forward and state their name and address.

7.1. Stayton High School ASB Report: Bradley Phelps
Description:
Stayton High School ASB President, Bradley Phelps, will update the board on recent activities.

8. COMMUNICATION

8.1. Superintendent's Report: Andy Gardner
Description:
Andy will give the Board an oral report on the District and legislative issues affecting education.

8.2. Business Director's Report: Jane Nofziger
Description:
The March financial report is included in the Board packet. Jane will be present to answer any questions.

Description:

Description:
Principal Kirby will update the Board on the changes to the Science curriculum at Stayton High School.

9. CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS
Description:
In order to make more efficient use of meeting time, items that are routine in nature are placed on the Consent Agenda when no debate is anticipated. Any item placed on the Consent Agenda may be removed at the request of any Board member prior to the time a vote is taken. All remaining items of the Consent Agenda are then disposed of in a single motion.

9.3. Policy Update Approvals: Tonia Whisman
Description:
The following updates are recommended by OSBA and were presented for a First Reading at the March meeting. The only policy that requires Board action is KL-Public Complaints. All other policies are Administrative Regulations and do not require Board action when updated.
KBA-AR - Public Records The edits provide more clarity regarding the process for requesting records. KL- Public Complaints KL-AR3 - Appeal to the Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction The edits more clearly describe the process for resolving complaints. GCBDA/GDBDA-AR-4 - FMLA/OFLA Eligibility Notice to Employee GCBDA/GDBDA-AR6 Designation Notice - FMLA/OFLA Both policies were updated by Human Resources to match the District's current practices. |

12. BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS

13. ENTER IN EXECUTIVE SESSION: SUPERINTENDENT EVALUATION
Description:
The School Board will now meet in executive session for the purpose of reviewing the superintendent's evaluation as pursuant to ORS 192.660 (2)(i)-Performance Evaluations. No decision may be made in executive session and when the discussion is concluded, the board will return to Regular session and welcome the audience back into the room.
Representatives of the news media, designated staff and invited guests may be allowed to attend the executive session. All other members of the audience are now asked to leave the room. Representatives of the news media are specifically directed not to report on any of the deliberations during the executive session, except to state the general subject of the session as previously announced. No recording of the executive session is allowed without express permission from the board. |
