5.A. Mark Daniels, Weber High School- WSD Teacher of the Year 2021
Presenter:

Description:
Mark Daniels was nominated by Weber High principal Chris Earnest. Mark is described as the heart and soul of Weber High School as he teaches, inspires, cares, makes connections with students and daily gives his all to being a master teacher. As the theater director, Mark has produced many outstanding musicals and plays which have provided family entertainment for the community. Mark does things the right way and always with the best interest of kids at heart.

5.B. Rebekah Jamison, Municipal Elementary- WSD First Year Teacher Award

Description:
Rebekah was nominated by Municipal Elementary principal Kevin Chase. Rebekah has created an oasis for her students from the onslaught of concerns in their academic and personal lives. She is acutely aware of how to help students and want each child to succeed. Rebekah’s talents are described as amazing. She has mastered the practice of positive reinforcement, showing an average of 12 to 1 ratio of positives to correctives when the goal is 4 to 1. Mr. Chase noted he would love to hire her clone!

5.C. Derrick Gainsforth, Two Rivers High School- WSD First Year Teacher Award

Description:
Derrick was nominated by Two Rivers High School principal Nicole Meibos. Derrick is described as an incredible educator who is dedicated, passionate about his students, and teaching. It was explained some of the district’s most vulnerable and fragile students are given the opportunity to find success as they continue their educational journey. Derrick has taken on this challenge as a first-year teacher with a comprehensive plan and deep understanding of what this student population needs to reconnect with school to move forward with their education. Derrick is a master at blended learning, meeting students where they are, finding what works for each individual student, analyzing data, creating individualized learning plans, developing his curriculum in English and Journalism, and much, much more!

5.D. Caitlyn Singley, H. Guy Child, Special Education- WSD First Year Teacher Award

Description:
Caitlyn was nominated by H. Guy Child Elementary principal Janene Salt. Caitlyn is a Life Skills teacher who has made a tremendous impact on the lives of her students. Caitlyn has mentioned that she could never imagine teaching general education children, because she loves the children she works with and watching them learn. She gets great pleasure out of hearing parents say, "I didn’t think my child would ever be able to do that." Caitlyn may be petite, (many of her students are taller and larger) but she has the fire and passion for teaching that is immeasurable.

5.E. Diana Farley, West Haven Elementary- WSD Classified Employee of the Year 2021

Description:
Diana was nominated by West Haven Elementary principal Kristi Hancock. Diana is described as having the technical skills that every office needs! Diana is invested in everything she does, even working during the summer when she does not get paid. She steps up and takes on new tasks and is learning all the time. Diana is efficient, kind, caring, and a problem solver.

6. Discussion/Action Items

6.A. Approval of Revised Policy 4120 - Discrimination Clause (Including Title VI, IX and Section 504) - 2nd Reading

Description:
The revised policy separates conduct that is considered discrimination and conduct that is considered harassment, provides specific examples of each, and procedures for administrators when they receive a complaint of discrimination or harassment. This also references our new Title IX Sexual Harassment Policy 4121. There have been no further updates. It is recommended the Board approve Revised Policy 4120 on a second reading.

6.B. Approval of Revised Policy 4370 — Graduation Requirements — 1st Reading

Description:
Utah State Board of Education Administrative Rule R277-705 amendments now allow school districts to award a Career Development Credential to a student receiving services or support through an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504, if the student meets the criteria outlined in the rule. It is recommended the Board approve the Revised Policy 4370 on a first reading.
