The topic of the Board Work Session held on May 11, 2016, was a 2016-2017 Budget Presentation. Dr. Marsha Baisch, Assistant Superintendent, will provide a summary.
Summary information will also be presented regarding the High School Configuration and new Early Childhood Education/Community Education/Welcome Center Building recommendations discussed and presented at the May 11, 2016, Board of Education meeting. Dr. Baisch will preview the topic scheduled for the June Work Session, which will be a Special Education/Student Services presentation. |

VI.H. Approval for Submission of Grant Applications
Description:
The Administration recommends approval for submission of the following grant applications:
1. Grant application by Talahi Community School to the BNSF Railway Foundation in the amount of $10,000.00 to create a handicapped playground at Talahi. 2. Grant application by Talahi Community School to Scheels in the amount of $5,000.00 to secure funding for a handicapped playground at Talahi. 3. Grant application entitled "Computational Thinking in an Elementary Environment" by District 742 Media Services to the Minnesota Department of Education in the amount of $99,460.92. The purpose of the grant is to support literacy by including 21st century and digital literacy skills in a partnership with ten K-5 facilities. 4. Safe Routes to School grant application by the District 742 Health and Fitness Department to the Minnesota Department of Education in the amount of $25,000.00. The purpose of the grant is to raise awareness of street safety and promote physical activities among 4th and 5th graders in ten elementary schools. |

VI.J. Curriculum Resource Adoptions
Description:
The Administration recommends approval of the following curriculum resource adoption recommendations:
The Great Body Shop, which is a research based, comprehensive health education resource, will provide the District with an age appropriate pace and sequence for elementary students. The curriculum will meet state and national health standards. It will teach children in partnership with their families how to become more responsible and knowledgeable with regard to their personal, family and community health. McGraw Hill's Glencoe and AGA math resources with the ALEKS program for grades six through twelve in District 742. This is the complementary curriculum to the newly implemented elementary curriculum resources called My Math, which is also supported by the online ALEKS program starting in third grade. It incorporates multiple options for math remediation and enrichment, as well as supports for English Learners and Special Education students and teachers. |
VI.K. Bid Award - Blacktop Replacement at Discovery Community School, McKinley/Area Learning Center, North Junior High School, Oak Hill Community School, and Talahi Community School
The Administration recommends that the Board of Education award the bid for Blacktop Replacement at Discovery Community School, McKinley/Area Learning Center, North Junior High School, Oak Hill Community School, and Talahi Community School to Knife River Corporation in the amount of $407,000.00, based on low bid received meeting specifications. A bid tabulation is attached. This project is being funded with Long Term Facilities Maintenance Revenue.
