3.A. The February Student Spotlight will focus on the Glen Crest Middle School Friends Helping Friends Club. The Friends Helping Friends Club creates opportunities for students with disabilities and peer buddies to work together in an inclusive environment. Members of the club play games together, work on service projects, and build awareness around inclusivity.

3.B. The Glen Crest math team opened the season with the regional math competition at Marmion Academy, competing against 17 teams. The Glen Crest team finished 6th overall and finished 7th in the individual competition.
In the third regional math competition at St. Francis high school, in the individual section, Team A finished in 5th place. Overall, the Glen Crest team finished 4th in the competition. In the fourth regional competition run by MathCounts, the Glen Crest math team finished 7th overall. Our outstanding mathletes are: Andrew Benesch, Kellen Binder, Srihitha Gandla, Dea Gjata, Emily Goodin, Agnius Gramauskas, Ellie Koger, Claire Long, Aditya Narayanan, Agastya Pabba, Matthew Park, Shreenithi Rathinam Sarvaghan and Mekael Sultan. Congratulations to all of our mathletes! |
3.C. The Board of Education would like to honor and thank Vesna Plavsic. Through February, Plavsic has served as a substitute teacher every day of the 2023-24 school year. Plavsic's commitment to CCSD 89 ensures that students always have a reliable teacher leading them through lessons. We appreciate her dedication to the children of this community!

3.D. Each year, Anderson's Bookshop curates a list of 25 young-adult novels that might be nominated for the annual Newbery Medal for distinguished children's literature. Glen Crest students are challenged to read the books between November and January.
This year, 11 students finished all 25 novels. Congratulations to sixth graders Ellie Koger, Olivia Loftsgaarden, Jesusa Moturi, Dania Sultan, Francesca Tenconi and Skylar Usalis; seventh graders Kayla Curran, Camden De Leon and Alayna Zainab; and eighth graders Charlotte Edwards and Nora Martinez. |
3.E. Congratulations to Westfield Elementary kindergarten teacher Laura Lipinski. Lipinski was named the 2024 Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce Educator of the Year for CCSD 89!

12. Closed Session
The Board will enter into closed session to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the District or legal counsel for the District, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the District or against legal counsel for the District to determine its validity as allowed by Section 2 5ILCS 120/2(c)(1), to discuss collective negotiating matters between the District and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees as allowed by Section 2 5ILCS 120/2(c)(2), to discuss student disciplinary cases as allowed by Section 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(9) and for the purpose of litigation, when an action against, affecting or on behalf of the District has been filed and is pending before a court or administrative tribunal, or when the public body finds that an action is probable or imminent, in which the basis for the finding shall be recorded and entered into the minutes of the closed meeting as allowed by Section 2 5ILCS 120/2(c)(11). |
