3.E. Congratulations to the Glen Crest seventh and eighth grade Band, Orchestra and Chorus! The Glen Crest chorus and symphonic band had a successful day of competition on Saturday, May 6th, at the "Music in the Parks Festival" at Six Flags Great America. The chorus and seventh and eighth grade band traveled to Woodland Middle School in Gurnee, IL, for the competition and performed two pieces in front of the audience and judges. The Glen Crest students did an amazing job performing! There were music groups from schools in Illinois and Indiana at the competition. The rest of the day was spent at Six Flags Great America and concluded with an awards ceremony in the Grand Music Hall. The Glen Crest band was awarded 2nd place with a rating of Superior and the chorus was also awarded 2nd place with a rating of Excellent. Mrs. Berry, Mr. Garbar and Mr. Koppitz are proud of the hard work and dedication of all the music students this year. We would like to thank Mr. Ladendof for bringing along the orchestra to cheer on the band and chorus. We would also like to thank Mr. & Mrs. Dietel, Mr. Govertsen and Ms. Mangiarulo who chaperoned the trip.

3.F. May 7 through May 13 was National Teacher Appreciation Week. We would like to express our appreciation for every CCSD 89 staff member who contributes to students' learning for life. Despite challenging circumstances over the last three school years, the staff has found innovative and inspiring ways to ensure students come home feeling happier, more confident, and better prepared than when they started the day.
3.G. National School Nurse Day was celebrated on May 10, 2023. District 89 recognizes that nurses are critical to the health, safety and well-being of our students. They meet the needs of today’s students by providing and advocating for quality student-centered care and offers gratitude for the nation’s school nurses, who contribute to our local communities by supporting students to stay healthy in school, safe, and ready to learn, and keeping parents and guardians at work by helping during every opportunity throughout the year. We honor the work and commitment of our outstanding nurses: Marcia Johnson, Sandy Lawinger, Stephanie Laloggia, Nicole Lenocker, Amy Mescher and Casey Reynolds.
3.H. We would like to thank our student board members, Kate Costello and Fatimah Shahid. Kate and Fatimah have been a welcomed addition to the CCSD 89 school board and provided great perspective representing the student community. During their service on the school board, we have added clubs and increased avenues for students' voices and much more. Thank you, Kate and Fatimah for your service to CCSD 89. We wish you the best in your future endeavors.
