3.A. The November Student Spotlight is from Westfield Elementary School. Westfield will be highlighting the school-wide "buddy system" that pairs students from different grades for shared learning experiences. Younger and older students work together on lessons that build community, reinforce expectations, and develop mentoring skills. 

3.B. November 15, 2022, is designated as School Board Member Day in Illinois. The children of District 89 benefit daily from the commitment to public education of our outstanding school board members:  Donna Kemp, Yannick Koger, Jay Lerch, Steve Neurauter, Haydee Nunez, Scott Pope and Ben Yates and our student board members:  Kate Costello and Fatimah Shahid. Thank you for the countless hours of dedicated service and outstanding collaborative spirit in leading our district so enthusiastically and effectively. 

3.C. Congratulations to the Glen Crest seventh-grade boys cross-country team for winning the DuPage Metro Valley championship at the October 5 conference meet. With four runners in the top 10, the Spartans pulled out a close finish over O'Neill. Seventh-grade team members are: Daniel Alcala, Lucas Donaker, Noah Martin, Giancarlo Pietrasanta, Alan Pikul, Evan Rubinas, and Andrew Woods. Congratulations also go to Glen Crest student Tom Jochum, who was the conference champion in the eighth-grade boys' meet. Jochum won seven of the eight meets he ran in this season. He finished the two-mile conference meet in 11 minutes, 10 seconds -- 24 seconds ahead of the second-place runner.

The ILMEA District IX Jr. Division Festival took place on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Bartlett High School in Bartlett.  The students submitted an online audition and were chosen by professional music educators for the honors ensembles.  The students rehearsed throughout the morning and concluded with a concert for the public in the afternoon.  Katie Berry, Lev Garbar, Kristi Kline and Andrew Ladendorf are proud of the hard work and dedication of these music students.

3.E. About 200 students, staff, and community members completed the 14th annual Spartan Pumpkin Run on Sunday, October 23. Proceeds from the 2.1-mile run are used to supplement the cost of fitness room equipment, team uniforms, and intramural equipment. Special thank you to all the staff members who assisted along the course and to Glen Crest PE teacher Kelly Nordlund who organized the race for the first time!

A new collection of artwork displayed in the Boardroom, comes to us courtesy of Glen Crest middle school students, Jackson Arnold, Layla Bailey, Zachary Dotterer, Delilah Durek, Agnius Gramauskas, Daniella Irera, Lillian Knowles, Lydia Lindquist, Lubna Mir and Erin Whitehead. Thank you to art teacher Rich Stachon for his assistance in providing this opportunity to showcase District 89 students.

3.G.  American Education Week was November 14-18. The Board of Education acknowledges the commitment to excellence District 89 employees bring to school each day and appreciates the quality education provided to the children of this community.
