4.A. The May Student Spotlight features the specialized academic classroom at Glen Crest Middle School. The students in this classroom have cognitive or intellectual disabilities. Once a month, these students take trips into the community, where they can apply what they are learning in school in a real-world setting.

4.B. Dr. Jacoby from IASBO will present Illinois ASBO Director Scholarship Presentation to the Glen Ellyn Children’s Resource on behalf of Maureen Jones for her service to the IASBO board.

4.C. Thank you to Briar Glen's Erin Postovalov and Westfield's Carly Walsh, who have served as the PTC presidents in our schools. Their commitment of time and dedicated service is truly appreciated by the Board of Education, Administration, staff and children of District 89.

4.D. Congratulations to Glen Crest students Michael Benjamin, John Scheer, and Jason Stephens. Michael, John, and Jason competed in the Region C Special Olympics Spring Games at Marmion Academy on Sunday, May 1. All three boys earned gold medals in track events at the meet. Michael earned gold in the 50-meter run. John earned gold in the tennis ball throw and silver in the 50-meter run. Jason earned gold in the 50-meter run and silver in the tennis ball throw.

4.E. Congratulations to Arbor View students Druthi Basetti, Jonah David, and Arisha Tomar, for being recognized for excellence in penmanship. Druthi, Jonah, and Arisha entered the Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest this year. The contest is open to students from kindergarten through eighth grade. The three students were grade-level winners for Arbor View: Jonah in first grade, Arisha in second grade, and Druthi in fourth grade. Jonah and Arisha then went on to also win their grade level at the state competition! These students helped Arbor View to be named one of only three public schools in Illinois to National Handwriting State Winner status.

4.F. Congratulations to the students who were selected for the Illinois Principals Association student recognition. These students were chosen for their academic achievement, citizenship in school, leadership among their peers, and integrity in their school work. The following students represent the next generations of leaders in their schools and our community: Arbor View - Avery Lappe and Anthony Molina Flores 5th graders, Briar Glen - Makenna Minkley 5th grader, Park View - Lillian Waldbusser and Emma Waldbusser, 5th graders, Westfield - Colbie Schmidt and Brooke Wills 5th graders, and Glen Crest Middle School - Lizzie Pekkarinen and Gavin Loftsgaarden, 8th graders.

4.G. National School Nurse Day was celebrated on Friday, May 6, 2022. District 89 recognizes that nurses are critical to the health, safety and well-being of our students. We honor the work and commitment of our outstanding nurses: Marcia Johnson, Sandy Lawinger, Amy Mescher, Casey Reynolds and Colleen Smith.

4.H. May 2 through May 6 was national Teacher Appreciation Week. We would like to express our appreciation for every CCSD 89 staff member who contributes to students' learning for life. Despite challenging circumstances over the last three school years, the staff has found innovative and inspiring ways to ensure students come home feeling happier, more confident, and better prepared than when they started the day.

4.I. We would like to thank our student board members, Jillian DeMayo and Kavya Uppal. Jillian and Kavya have been a welcomed addition to the CCSD 89 school board and provided great perspective representing the student community. During their service on the school board, we have added clubs and increased avenues for students' voices and much more. Thank you, Jillian and Kavya, for your service to CCSD 89. We wish you the best in your future endeavors.

4.J. As the school year comes to a close, we offer our best wishes to the entire 8th grade class from Glen Crest Middle School. The Achievement Ceremony will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2022, Glenbard South High School. We wish all our students good luck and success in high school!
