2) Discuss waiving Veteran's Day and Casimir Pulaski holidays and replace with student attendance days in 2010/2011. In addition, the holidays of MLK Day, Lincoln's birthday and Columbus Day will be waived for possible use in future years.
Description:
In the 2010/2011 school year, Veteran's Day and Casimir Pulaski Day
will be student attendance days. In order to use future holidays, the
Board will approve the proposal to hold school, schedule teachers
institutes, conduct parent teacher conferences, or conduct staff
development activities on the second Monday in October (Columbus Day),
Nov. 11 (Veteran's Day), the third Monday in January (the birthday of
Martin Luther King Jr.) , February 12 (the birthday of Abraham
Lincoln), and the first Monday in March (the birthday of Casimir
Pulaski). The person's honored by these holidays shall be recognized through instructional activities conducted on that day or, if the day is not used for student attendance, on the first school day preceding or following that day. In addition, a moment of silence will be taken to recognize Veterans of foreign wars on Veteran's Day.
