BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Rick Sansted will share with the board the "206 Points of Pride." The persons being recognized this month are: AAHS Phy. Ed. Teacher, Tyler Van Hove has been named Young Professional Teacher of the Year by the Minnesota Society of Health and Physical Educators. This award recognizes the outstanding potential for teaching, professional leadership and service in the Adapted Physical Education, Health, Physical Education, Dance and/or Recreation profession for professionals in their first 5 years of teaching. Megan Jacob, AAHS Business Teacher, was inducted into the Valley City State University Athletics Hall of Fame this fall for volleyball. She is the school’s all-time assist leader and one of the best setters in VCSU volleyball history. |

IV.B. APPROVE PAYMENT OF BILLS FOR AUGUST 2023

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Because of the many year-end accounting adjustments and entries that need to be made, the financial reports for August 2023 will be presented when the number accurately reflects fiscal year 2022-2023 activities. The listing of bills for payment is the last attachment to this agenda. RECOMMENDATION: The administration recommends the board approve the payment of bills for August 2023. |
IV.C. APPROVE PERSONNEL RECOMMENDATIONS

Personnel recommendations are made monthly. The conditional offers of employment are subject to successful completion of a criminal background check and I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification, and where applicable, the issuance of the required license. RECOMMENDATION: The administration recommends the board approve the personnel recommendations as presented on the following pages. |

IV.I. COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT

The District has received a request from Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (KMS) High School for a cooperative sponsorship in Boys and Girls Alpine Ski for the 2023-2024 school year. Activities Supervisor Ben Kvidt supports this request. RECOMMENDATION: The administration recommends the board approve the cooperative sponsorship between the District and Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (KMS) High School in Boys and Girls Alpine Ski for the 2023-2024 school year. |

VI.A. ADOPT RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER PROGRAMS

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
During the 2023 Minnesota Legislative Session, Minnesota Statutes sections 121A.58 (Corporal Punishment) and 121A.582 (Student Discipline; Reasonable Force) were amended to restrict a School Resource Officer’s use of force in schools. RECOMMENDATION: The administration recommends the board adopt the Resolution in Support of School Resource Officer Program as presented. |
VI.B. APPROVE 2023-2024 SCHOOL SITE GOALS AND ACTION PLANS

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Darcy Josephson will present the 2023-2024 school site improvement goals and action plans. These plans utilize assessment results from the 22-23 school year. The building goals have been reviewed by the Curriculum/Policy Committee. RECOMMENDATION: The administration recommends the board approve the 2023-2024 School Site Improvement Goals as presented. |
VI.C. APPROVE 2023 PAYABLE 2024 PRELIMINARY TAX LEVY

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Trevor Peterson will provide a summary of the 2023 Payable 2024 preliminary property tax levy information and answer questions regarding the levy proposal. The summary is an overview of the state levy document that involves many pages of data and computations. The 2023 Payable 2024 preliminary property tax levy limitation is an increase of $637,587.95 (or 3.59%) for a total levy limitation of $18,399,314.11. *Due to continual calculation changes, these figures are subject to change leading up to the board meeting. Further discussion will take place at the time of the meeting. RECOMMENDATION: The administration recommends the board approve the preliminary property tax levy for 2023 Payable 2024 at the maximum state allowable amount. |
VI.D. REVIEW OF MATERIALS

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
A Request for Review of Materials was received to review the book SOLD. Per the guidelines laid out in Appendix A of Policy 606, a review council convened to review the material and concluded that the book should remain in the Discovery Middle School’s library, with parental permission required prior to a student being able to check it out. The decision of the committee was appealed to the Superintendent of Schools and the decision was upheld. The decision of the Superintendent of Schools has been appealed to the School Board for a final decision. Documentation of the request and appeals proceedings was shared with board members. |
