Description:
Arkansas Code Annotated §6-17-309 requires local school districts to secure a waiver when classrooms are staffed with unlicensed teachers for longer than 30 days. Requests were received from 71 school districts for a total of 155 waivers. There were also requests for long-term substitutes from 20 school districts requesting a total of 36 waivers for long-term substitutes. These requests have been reviewed, were either approved or denied by Department staff, and are consistent with program guidelines.

V.1. Embedded Course Approvals

Act 421 of 2013 allows curriculum frameworks from two (2) separate courses to be taught in a single course, known as a combined or embedded course. Five school districts made application for approval of combined or embedded courses and assured, in writing, that the curriculum frameworks for both courses will be fully taught in the combined or embedded course. The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education respectfully requests the State Board of Education (SBE) approve the embedded courses linked below, understanding that when the curriculum frameworks for one of the courses are revised, a new course approval request must be submitted to the SBE and approval must be granted before a school would be allowed to offer the embedded course.

The term of this member is to begin immediately upon appointment and end on June 30, 2023.

Description:
The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education seeks approval for the attached Request for Proposal to be issued. The Goal of the RFP process is select the location and operator of the Arkansas Leadership Academy for the next 5 years of operation with an annual report of performance to the State Board of Education. The successful applicant will align the work of the Arkansas Leadership Academy with Arkansas’s updated model for school improvement efforts that include evidence-based approaches to teacher and administrator leadership development, resulting in Arkansas’s ultimate shift from adequacy to excellence. The State Board of Education is granted authority (A.C.A. § 6-15-1007) to issue requests for proposals if the state board should determine to change the operator or the location of the academy.
