10. NEW BUSINESS
10.A. Athletic Conference Change (Information/Discussion/Action)
Presenter:  Justin Ansel, Athletic Director
Description:  The administration is requesting approval of moving Comstock PS athletics from the Berrien-Cass-St. Joseph (BCS) Conference to the Southwest 10 (SW10) Conference.

The SW10 was formed when 6 SAC and 4 BCS schools united. Recently Eau Claire dropped from the SW10 due to their small size and issues offering sports. For scheduling purposes, the SW10 would like to get back to 10 schools.

The SW10 is a great fit geographically and will be a good competitive fit for all involved. The BCS continued to expand along the Lakeshore, making conference trips and meetings very long. Even though we were a Class B school, we would be participating in the same D3 and D4 tournaments as all of the other SW10 schools. CPS would be the biggest school (394) in the SW10. Our size is a concern for several smaller schools, prompting a provision in their bylaws, stating any HS with enrollment higher than 400 for 2 consecutive years could be voted out of the conference, but they also could decide to keep that school if they believe the competition is still healthy for everyone.

SW10 Schools:
Bangor, Bloomingdale, Centreville, Mendon, Marcellus, Cassopolis, White Pigeon, Decatur and Hartford
10.B. Technology Bid (Information/Discussion)
Presenter:  Mark Peeters, Technology Director
Description:  CPS typically qualifies for discounts (80%-90%) on eligible services though the federal program known as USF (Universal Service Fund) or E-Rate. Over the past 4-years CPS has received over $600,000 in
discounts.

In order to be considered for funding in the 2021-2022 school year, CPS must follow strict timelines set by the federal government. As part of the USF filing process, public bids for service must be available for 28 days on the federal USF website.
10.C. CPS Policy First Reading, 4225 - Temporary Remote Work (Discussion/Action)
Presenter:  Dr. Jeff Thoenes, Superintendent
Description:  On Tuesday, November 17, 2020 the CPS Board of Education's Policy Committee was provided policy 4225 (Temporary Remote Work) to review. The Policy Committee met on Thursday, November 19, 2020, recommending to move forward with approval of the whole board. Policy will expire April 14, 2021, unless Emergency Rule 5(8) is otherwise extended, or unless expressly extended by the Board.
