Presenter:  Assistant Superintendent Jill Ansell
Description:  During this pandemic we have learned many new ways to deliver instruction that we are likely to continue in the future. Conversely, we have faced challenging situations regarding the ability to engage and assess our students.  Assistant Superintendent Ansel will share with you some of the celebrations along with some of the changes we are making to address the challenges.

9.B. Reconfirmation of the COVID-19 Learning Plan (Action)
Presenter:  Superintendent Thoenes
Description:  On August 20, 2020, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed into law Public Act 147, 148 and 149 a/k/a The Return-to-Learn Legislation.  Within this package of legislation is the requirement that Comstock Public Schools Board of Education reconfirm the district's instructional program.  This confirmation vote must occur once a month after the Extended Continuity of Learning Plan was initially approved by the Kalamazoo RESA on October 9, 2020. 
Affirm the following:
  • All buildings and grade levels will continue to have a virtual option.
  • All buildings and grade levels will continue to have the following a face-to-face options:
    • Comstock Early Learning Academy (CELA) (in-person instructional option, four days a week, Monday-Thursday)

    • Comstock Elementary School (CES) (in-person instructional option, five days a week, Monday-Friday)

    • Comstock STEM Academy (STEM) ("hybrid" in-person, instructional model option with Monday/Tuesday "Blue Group" and Thursday/Friday "White Group" with Wednesday reserved for virtual instruction for all students).

    • Comstock Middle School (CMS) ("hybrid" in-person, instructional model option with Monday/Tuesday "Blue Group" and Thursday/Friday "White Group" with Wednesday reserved for virtual instruction for all students).

    • Comstock High School (CHS) ("hybrid" in-person, instructional model option with Monday/Tuesday "Blue Group" and Thursday/Friday "White Group" with Wednesday reserved for virtual instruction for all students).  

    • Compass High School (COM) (split sessions with morning (AM) and afternoon (PM) groups.

    • Education For Employment (EFE) Auto Tech classroom hybrid in-person, instructional model

9.C. CPS Board Governance Guidelines and Practices (Action)
Presenter:  Superintendent Thoenes
Description:  At the October 26, 2020 board meeting the Board reviewed the proposed changes that were supported by the Policy Committee.  It is recommended the Board approve the revisions to the CPS Board Governance Guidelines and Practices document.

9.D. Create Custodial Supervisor Position (Information/Discussion)
Presenter:  Superintendent Thoenes
Description:  Superintendent Thoenes is proposing the creation of a new CPS position of custodial supervisor.  This person will serve under the direction of Sean Gillette, facilities director.  This person's duties will be to serve as the first line of contact for custodial issues and for ensuring the quality of performance.   The Policy Committee has discussed the creation of the position and are in support of moving forward.

9.E. Strategic Planning Process (Information/Discussion)
Description:  Board President, Pamela Dickinson, and Superintendent Thoenes recommend the Board continue the process for renewing the Strategic Plan. Proposed revisions have been drafted and will be reviewed with the Board.

10. Closed Session - for the Purpose of Reviewing Attorney-Client Privileged Letter Under OMA Section 8(h)
Description:  The Board will move into closed session to review a priviledged attorney - client letter.
