6.B. Consider and take action to approve pay rate for bus drivers
Presenter:
Clay Cade
Description:
Hourly pay for bus drivers has not been increased since 2010. The hourly rate is $20 for route drivers and $10 for all other events. We are 5 bus drivers short for the 2023-2024 school year, and recruiting has been a challenge due to the hourly rate. Most bus drivers are part time.
Administration proposes an hourly rate of $30 per hour for route drivers and $15 per hour for all other events. Currently SISD operates 13 routes, and 16 are needed. |
6.C. Consider and take action to approve stipend for Ag Sciences
Presenter:
Clay Cade
Description:
Due to a statewide shortage of Ag Science Teachers, Administration is proposing a stipend to recruit and retain an Ag Teacher. This stipend is for the Ag Sciences teacher with LDE, CDE, FFA, and stock show responsibility, limited to one.
As the Ag Science Teacher market is highly competitive, a market rate stipend is suggested at the discretion of the Superintendent. |
6.D. Safety and Security
Description:
School safety and security continues to be a serious topic as legislators consider HB 3. The bill proposes adding a new department of nearly 50 personnel at the TEA, requiring every campus to have armed security personnel, and increases monitoring, reporting, and auditing.
I have been invited to participate in a regional safety committee and met with the new TEA Chief of Safety and Security. We need to seriously consider creating a district level position for a Director of Safety and Security. |
7. Executive Session (G1-G4)
The Board may go into closed session in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act, Government Code, Chapter 551, Subchapters D and E. Before any closed meeting is convened, the presiding officer will publicly identify the section or sections of the Act authorizing the closed meeting. All final votes, actions, or decisions will be taken in an open meeting. |
