Description:
Broadmeadow Elementary School REACH Summit for REACH Wellness teams
Resilience Education to Advance Community Healing (REACH) aims to help schools in establishing systems of support to better address student mental health and build resilience. Broadmeadow was selected from over fifty schools due to our high level of engagement, despite difficult times. We were recognized for our leadership, teamwork, and commitment. We shared our experiences, answered questions to support other schools in the process, and fostered communities of practice. We were joined by leaders from across the state, including U.S. Senator Durbin and Dr. Carmen Ayala, State Superintendent of Education. Since then, we have been contacted by ISBE to share our story and the SEL Director from the ROE to offer grant support to help fund our efforts. Our team members include: Amy Blomberg, Deb Stevens, Angie Broughton, Carolyn Johnson, Jacklyn Hilligoss, Gabi Cooper, and Rianne Delgadillo. The goal of the team is to create a trauma-responsive school. We are going through training and meeting as a team to assess the needs of the building. We filled out a trauma-responsive school implementation assessment and came up with scores for our building. We have taken the data from this and other assessments to determine three areas of need. Two smart goals have been created and we will develop a trauma-responsive action plan. We will share this plan with our staff and stakeholders. We will be asking for feedback on our action plan so that we can incorporate it into our final product and ensure multiple perspectives are represented. Once we have feedback, we will incorporate it into our plan, publish the final plan, and establish a system to monitor the implementation. |
